The United States has barred five prominent Europeans from entering the country, accusing them of leading efforts to pressure U.S. technology platforms into censoring or suppressing American speech online — a move the administration calls part of its campaign against “extraterritorial censorship.”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on social media that “ideologues in Europe have led organized efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” and that the Trump administration “will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
The five individuals targeted include:

The visa restrictions stem from a policy announced in May targeting foreigners whom U.S. officials say are responsible for censoring viewpoints protected under U.S. free speech protections.
European leaders strongly condemned the move, arguing the EU’s online regulation laws were democratically adopted and do not have extraterritorial reach. Officials from France, Germany and the European Commission called Washington’s action unacceptable and warned of possible retaliatory measures to defend European regulatory autonomy.
